The 2011 Art in the Park was another great success!
The work of 80 artists was on display. Participating were sponsors, food vendors, and Birmingham Children’s Theatre and a variety of entertainment. Artist-for a Day and Hands-on Art Projects were enjoyed by young and old!
The Children’s Activity Area, sponsored by Walker Area Community Foundation, has expanded each year. Children made pinecone bird feeders, colorful paintings and sculptures.
A corral of beautifully decorated Mules were a main attraction…all part of the 20-Mule Team Pubic Art Project recently launched by the Arts Alliance.
On hand were Russell Colvin with his Blacksmithing demonstration, and Donna Branch of Tara Glass Art with her blown glass creations. Dreamy Dream Catchers were created by Paul Hyche, and Mike Banks with his flints and arrowheads added to the experience.
Artists from Jasper, Birmingham, Hoover, Huntsville, Decatur, Hayleyville, and from all across the south came out to celebrate the beauty of Gamble Park and share a day of art, fine crafts, music, dance and culture.
Next year’s Art in the Park will be held on Saturday, May 12th. Mark your calendar for this must-see event!
